BSF recovers 10 kg heroin in Punjab

Border Security Force (BSF) personnel recovered 10 kg heroin following a shootout with smugglers from Pakistan in the Amritsar sector, BSF officials said Thursday.

The seizure was made near Pulmoran border outpost, 35 km from here, a BSF spokesman said. It is valued at Rs.50 crore in the international market.

“BSF personnel at Pulmoran outpost challenged the smugglers who fired at the troopers who retaliated. However, the smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of darkness and the standing wheat crop,” the spokesman said.

The BSF has recovered 94 kg heroin, valued Rs.470 crore, in the Punjab sector in April itself.

The paramilitary force has seized 243 kg heroin valued Rs.1,215 crore in just over three months of this year. Heroin seizure in the entire last year (2013) was 322 kg in the Punjab sector.
