Hyderabad, March 06: Alleging that some legislators were encouraging gambling in the city, the Telugu Desam today sought details of the names of the owners of houses where anti-social activities were taking place.

This demand was made during the question hour in the Assembly. Congress members DL Ravindra Reddy and E Prathap Reddy wanted to know from the government whether it was true that large-scale gambling was taking place in the name of recreation clubs and sought details. Telugu Desam legislator E Dayakar Rao alleged that some ministers and legislators were shielding the gamabling houses and sought details of the people who rented out their premises to gambling clubs.

A Vivekananda Reddy and Mastanvali (Cong), Ahmed Bilal (MIM) and V Geetha (PRP) also demanded stringent action against gambling dens.

Home Minister P Sabitha Reddy informed the House that the Hyderabad Police Act did not allow licences to be given to the clubs by the police. The government had no intention of regularising the recreation clubs to get revenue, she said and added that 55,187 cases were booked against gamblers.

ILLEGAL QUARRYING: Mines Minister B Srinivasa Reddy assured the House of steps to put an end to all illegal quarrying by the end of the present session of the Assembly. He was replying to P Sanker Rao of the Congress who said the menace of illegal quarrying was continuing despite court orders for closure of such quarries.

GROUP OF MINISTERS: Major Irrigation Minister P Laxmaiah informed the House that the government would refer the pay revision anomalies in the case of engineering officials to the group of ministers.

Replying to J Ranga Reddy of the CPM, he assured that the house rent allowance in Greater Hyderabad area would be enhanced to Rs 12,000 and in other places from Rs 4,000 to 8,000. Orders to this effect would be issued soon, he said.
