Civil Supplies and IT Minister KT Rama Rao today stated that the government will construct 292 Godowns in IKP Centers in the state to provide minimum support price to farmers’ produce.

In a press release here on Friday, the minister stated that the each godown unit will cost about Rs 40 lakhs besides providing a storage capacity of 500 metric tons of agriculture produce. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has given his nod to construct godowns at all IKP Centers and help the farmers he said. A total of Rs 116 cr will be spent using funds from Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme he said adding that 144 godowns will be built this year and the rest the following year. KTR said that the storage houses will help the farmers avoid the problem of transportation besides storing the produce until they get MSP. The government identified 292 IKP Centers with land availability to construct Godowns and will identify land in other areas for construction of the same.The government is firm on its decision to ensure MSP to the farmers who are reeling under the terror of drought conditions, loss of crops and other issues, he said.

District wise godowns the government planning to construct include – Adilabad 12, Karimnagar 161, Khamma 6, Mahabunagar 39, Medak 38, Nalgonda 44, Nizamabad 11 and Warangal 11. (NSS)
