3 greyhounds tie Wimbledon race in `30million-to-one` chance

London, December 17:

A 30 million-to-one moment was witnessed at London’s Wimbledon track when a trio of greyhounds crossed a finish line at the exact same time, in the third heat of the John White Christmas Cracker.

The three dogs, Murlens Houdini, Lightning Speed and Tinas Luke finished the race within one-hundredth of a second of each other, the Mirror reported.

Even the most sophisticated technology at London’s Wimbledon track could not separate them, during the event that was held last Friday.

Gary Matthews, Wimbledon’s racing manager, asserted that after announcing the triple dead heat people cheered up as such a moment has not been witnessed by anyone before.

“I doubt we’ll ever seen another one like that. When we announced the triple dead heat a huge roar went up,” the paper quoted him as saying.

Murlens Houdini looked a certain winner, leading through the first three bends, but the other two later caught up and they all crossed the line together, with a joint time of 28.87 seconds.

The first ever triple dead heat has happened earlier in January, 2011, and bookies said the chances of it happening again were 30 million-to-one.

“The dogs are running flat-out at over 40mph as they cross the finish line. The odds of a triple dead heat happening are many, many millions to one. It’s like winning the lottery and being struck by a meteorite in the same afternoon,” said James McCreadie, spokesman for the Greyhound Board of Great Britain.
