New Delhi, March 11: Andhra Pradesh has the dubious distinction of having the maximum number of women trafficked in the country, followed by Kerala.
While Andhra Pradesh had 438 cases registered under the Immoral Trafficking Act, Kerala had 281, Tamil Nadu 235 and Karanataka 250 in the last year, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.
Orissa had no cases registered for immoral trafficking as was the case with north-eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Tripura, Minister of State for Women and Child Development Krishan Tirath said in a written reply.
She said that a comprehensive advisory on preventing and combating human trafficking in India has been issued by the government to all states and Union Territories.
Further, the ministry has been implementing the 'Ujjwala' scheme, under which financial assistance is being provided for prevention of trafficking and for rescue, rehabilitation and re-integration of victims of trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation.
Trainings are organised for civil society organisation as well as for sensitisation of law enforcement agencies, Tirath said.
