Hyderabad, February 27:

Apollo Hospitals here successfully demonstrated a complex angioplasty procedure using new cutting balloon and the same was beamed live for the prestigious India Live Conference at New Delhi, today. Cardiologist Dr Shiv Kumar and his team performed this procedure, a release from Apollo hospital today said. India Live is a conference where India showcases itself to the rest of the Cardiology fraternity spread across the world and is attended by the who's who of Cardiology world. Over 1000 Cardiologists from India and abroad attended the Conference.

In this case for the first time in India a new cutting balloon was used to perform the procedure, the release claimed. The advantage of the new cutting balloon is that highly calcified arteries can also be treated followed by stent deployment, especially in patients earlier not amenable to angioplasty. And, also for the first time a new imaging modality called Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) coupled with Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) was used to demonstrate the extent of the lesion in the artery and to optimize the stent deployment. Apollo Hospitals, Secunderabad was the only centre in South India to be extended the invitation to showcase at this prestigious India Live Conference, the release added. UNI
