Complete the target of Minorities Welfare schemes- Minister

Mr. S.M. Ahmedullah, Minister for Minorities Welfare held a review meeting with Special Secretary of Minorities Welfare, Mr. Syed Omer Jaleel, IAS , Mr. Shaik Mohammed Iqbal, IPS, Commissioner of Minorities Welfare and other officials. He instructed them to ensure full utilization of budget allotted for Minorities Department.

The functioning of Center for Educational Development of Minorities, Nizam College, OU and A.P. Urdu Academy was applauded and it was decided to extend their activities. It was also decided to sponsor 100 candidates belonging to Minorities for Civil Service training. A decision was also taken to start 3 coaching centers at Nizamabad, Kadapa and Chittor.

On the slow progress of the functioning of Minorities Finance Corporation was taken seriously and the officials were instructed to complete the targets of scholarships before 31st December. Under Center scheme, 2, 47, 000 students were sanctioned pre-matric scholarships so far whereas only 50% scholarships have been sanctioned to post matic students. Finance corporation was given a target of 33, 000 beneficiaries and it was estimated to give Rs. 30,000 subsidy but so far only 9% target has been achieved. The Govt. has issued Rs. 50 crore for this scheme.

The scam of Rs. 59 crore was also considered and it was decided to recover this amount from the banks. It was also suggested that loans should be issued directly from Finance Corporation instead of banks. Proposals for the appointments of District Minorities Welfare Officers will be sent to Revenue Dept. with a request to provide the services of Deputy Collectors for these posts.

Displeasure was expressed on the slow progress of survey work pertaining to wakf properties. It was reported that in some districts, this work has not yet been started. Wakf Survey Commissioner was instructed to complete the survey work before 31st March 2014. The proposal of Urdu Academy to upgrade its computer centers was accepted. It was also agreed to provide additional budget for the activities of Dairatul Maarif of OU.

Present in the meeting were Prof. S.A. Shukoor, Director of Urdu Academy, Prof. Mustafa Shareef, Director of Dairatul Maarif of OU, Mr. Mohammed Hashim Shareef, MD of Finance Corporation, Mr. M.A. Hameed EO of Hajj Committee, Mr. Hasan Ali Baig, Wakf Survey Commissioner, Mr. M.A. Gaffar, CEO of Wakf Board.
