Cyberabad CP awarded by ECI for Best Electoral Practices-2014

Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand has been conferred the Election Commission of India’s National Special Category Award for the Best Electoral Practices- 2014.

Anand has been bestowed the National Special Award by Election Commission of India (ECI) for the “commendable” election related measures taken by him in the area of ‘Expenditure Monitoring and Tackling Money Power’ during the General Elections of 2014.

The ECI has conferred these national awards after a country-wise scrutiny of best practices adopted by over 450 District DEOs/SPs in India.

At the South Zone Symposium held in Puducherry in August last year, 3 CEOs/SPs/CPs from each South Indian state who were nominated by the respective CEOs (Chief Electoral officer), gave their presentations to the ECI Committee chaired by the ECI’s then CEC V S Sampath.

The top brass of the ECI finalised two candidates from all over India for the National General Category Award and the National Special Category Award. The National Special Category award was conferred upon Anand.

The National Special Award carries a cash reward of Rs 50,000 along with a plaque and citation. Anand will receive the award in Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on January 25 on the occasion of National Voter’s Day Function.

Cyberabad Police Commissionerate had the highest cash seizures in the country in the run up to the election on April 30, 2014 of Rs 21.97 crore and also the single largest cash seizure of Rs 8.33 crore in the country in its drive to control election expenditure, a release from Cyberabad Police said today.

The National Best Practices Awards were instituted in 2011 to recognise the efforts and innovations of the officers and to commend and encourage individual and team accomplishments in diverse fields of election management. This is the first General Election after Institution of the award.
