Govt taking proactive steps to contain swine flu spread: JC

Hyderabad, July 25: Hyderabad Joint Collector Smitha Sabherwal on Saturday said that the district administration was taking pro-active steps to contain the spread of swine flu in the twin cities.

Talking to media persons after a review meeting on swine flu, Ms Sabherwal said that the dreaded disease is under control and there is no cause for worry.

She revealed that since January 2010, a total number of 1757 health camps were conducted, 745 persons who came in contact with H1N1 afflicted patients, and 19 children were given prophylactic fluvir medicine.

The Joint Collector said that 64 UHP Medical Officers are conducting swine flu awareness and health camps in their areas on every Tuesday and Saturday.

As per the Joint Collector’s instruction, high risk slums were identified and 35 camps conducted in these slums.

Ms Sabherwal revealed that the city has seen only 53 cases and 4 deaths in Hyderabad district from January to July this year.

The JC revealed that out of the four deaths, one is a postnatal case (post delivery case came to mother place from Jeedimetla. One is a pregnant lady and other two are high risk cases (diabetics). She said that the number of woman patients is 32 out of which 12 are pregnant.

The JC said that the authorities are going to open isolation wards in GMH Nayapul and Sultan Bazaar Maternity Hospital within a week. She added that the Gandhi Hospital has special ward for pregnant women and children and also said that the Niloufer hospital has allotted 2 beds with isolation ward.

Ms Sabherwal said that under APVVP and DCHS 6 Areas Hospitals are working full fledged and established isolation wards.

The JC added that a coordination meeting was conducted with IMA and APNA and private medical hospitals.

She said that IEC activities are being conducted for creating awareness among the public about signs and symptoms and screening of H1N1 influenza.

Ms Sabherwal added that the H1N1 vaccination is given to medical and paramedical staff of DM and HO and request is put on for giving vaccination to ASHAs and AWWs.
