Guilt over excessive internet usage affects personal relationships of one in four

wELLINGTON, February 07:

One in every four persons in New Zealand have admitted to suffering from guilt over internet usage, with a ten percent revealing that their personal relationships have been affected by overuse of the internet, according to a poll. According to a Canstar poll, women were marginally more likely to lament the time spent online, although it was more common for men to admit about damaged relationships because of their internet browsing, Stuff.co.nz reports. Canstar New Zealand general manager Derek Bonnar said the survey had showed the maximum people affected by the amount of time spent online were people in their late teens and twenties, adding that the people are not forced to do anything about the fact. According to Wellington psychotherapist Gordon Hewitt, excessive internet usage, like any obsessive pastime, could hurt relationships. In a romantic relationship, a partner''s high use of the internet could signal they were avoiding the other person. Canstar polled 1824 people with broadband. (ANI)
