Rajya Sabha member Nandamuri Hari Krishna has distanced himself from his brother-in-law and TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu over the stand he had taken on the Telangana issue, say reports.
Hari Krishna has always been against state bifurcation and has been unhappy with Naidu’s vacillating attitude for political compulsions. It is learnt that he firmly felt that it was the intention of his late father N T Rama Rao, founder of the party that the state should be united and flourish. Hari Krishna has been telling his close associates that late NTR had striven for the unity of the Telugus and turn them into a powerful and respected race. He had earlier also openly talked in favour of the state remaining united.
Reports said that this was the reason why Hari Krishna had not attended the Politburo meeting of the TDP in Karimnagar district on December 27. He reportedly told his close associates that he was not going to the Politburo meeting, as his opinion would not be valued. Hari Krishna is also pained that his younger brother and hero Bala Krishna was supporting every move of Naidu, because he gave his daughter in marriage to Naidu’s son Lokesh.
Hari Krishna has been opposing the party slipping into the hands of the Nara family. He tried in vain to get grip over the party with a view to pass on the leadership to his son Jr. NTR, a Nandamuri scion, instead of it slipping into the hands of Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh. He thought at least after Naidu retired, the party should come back into the hands of the Nandamuri family. But he did not get support for this attempt from Bala Krishna. Hari Krishna openly opposed efforts of Naidu to project his son Lokesh as the future leader instead of projecting Jr. NTR who is more charismatic as the leader. This was the reason Hari Krishna has been keeping himself away from party matters. Excepting on the day Naidu started his Pada Yatra in Anantapur district, he was not associated with it later. Jr. NTR who announced he would join Naidu’s walkathon had not done it. He just went to see Naidu when he met with a small accident and then kept aloof.
It is learnt that Naidu has also been displaying an attitude that Hari Krishna’s presence or absence would not matter. Meanwhile, Lokesh has become active in the party, showing all signs of playing a greater role in future.
It may be recalled that Naidu sent a letter to the central government during the all-party meeting that his party stood by its letter of 2008, when it supported Telangana creation. This has reportedly infuriated Hari Krishna.
