Hyderabad, February 10: Justice Tamada Gopalakrishna of the High Court today sought the response of the Warangal district superintendent of police on the threat perception which led to the cancellation of the permission granted for yet another `garjana’ at Mulugu in Warangal district.

The Pydi Telangana Praja Sanghala Samakhya moved the High Court questioning the withdrawal of the permission.

Special government pleader Sriram Subramanian pointed out that the perception of deteriorating law and order was real and that there was no point in being wise after the incident. He pointed to the incidents that happened at Polikeka and said that the police perceived the scenario as being highly sensitive and had therefore withdrawn the permission granted earlier.

Jyothi Kiran of the Samakhya contended that the alleged threat perception was only a ruse to water down the movement for separate Telangana. She argued that granting permission for other public meetings but refusing it in the said case could only be seen as hostile discrimination.

The matter will be heard tomorrow.

NABARD fund release stayed on complaint of regional bias

Justice L Narasimha Reddy stayed temporarily the release of NABARD funds to the tune of over Rs 130 crore.

He passed the interim order on a writ petition complaining of regional bias and for not effecting proportional allotment of NABARD funds for road development across the State.

Jyothi Kiran, a practising advocate, complained that only a marginal fraction of Rs 130 crores was earmarked for the Telangana region and nothing for the district of Karinagar. A strong advocate of statehood for Telangana, she said that it was a clear case of regional prejudice requiring judicial intervention.
