New Delhi, January 15:

A man created a fake profile of his wife on a porn site and put her mobile number on it to defame her, said police Tuesday

The couple had separated a few months after they got married in March 2011.

The case was registered Monday at Delhi Police's cyber cell after a court instructed police to lodge her complaint.

The victim lives with her parents in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar. In her complaint, she alleged that she had been receiving a series of obscene calls for the past few of days.

The victim's husband, Ashwani Gautam, a resident of Agra in Uttar Pradesh, has been named as the prime suspect.

The woman fist approached the Sangam Vihar police station with her complaint, which was transferred to the cyber cell as the offence was related to cyber crime.

She told police that she had separated from Gautam because of his continuous demand for dowry followed by physical torture and sexual harassment.

"She said her husband created fake profiles on various adult websites in which he uploaded her mobile number and obscene messages," police said.
