Patna, November 08: God is one. So, the people of the world, professing different religions, are the same offering obeisance to the one and the same God in their own words in different languages.
And, this is what Yajurveda, Brahmsutra and Quran have mentioned, claimed Syed Tariq Abdullah Engineer, president of the World Organisation of Religions and Knowledge.
He was delivering a talk on The Conception of Harmony from Vedas to Quran organised by the Temple of Understanding, an inter-faith global organisation, here on Saturday.
Engineer said Islam can be called an Indic religion and India a sacred land of Islam. He said Prophet Mohammad used the word Hind with respect by saying: "Hind ke taraf se jannat ki khushbu aati hai (The scent of heaven comes from India)."
He went on to say that in India there is Sanatana Dharma and in ancient time there was no mention of the word Hindu. "I am Sanatana. I am a Muslim living in Hindustan, which is a sacred land visited by Adam from heaven. The name of Adam finds mention in all regligious scriptures."
When all the religions say that God is one, then where is the difference, Engineer argued, giving a call for promoting international brotherhood and harmony, the very essence of all religions. There is one religion of one God whose manifestations are different according to different tongues, he reasoned.

How can this Engineer explains, the Father, the Son Of God, Trinity, Holy Spirit, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Indra, Ram, Krishna, Hanuman, Ganesh, Nag Devta, and so on and so on, list is very long, how can these religions be the same as Islam, Syed Tariq Abdullah Engineer should know the basic of monotheism, one god, and only one god, no sons, no avatars no demi-gods. Islam is not an Indic religion, in no way, the thought that there is one Brahma, then divided into three Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, then incarnations. And Devis, wives of these Gods, sons from them, Ganesh for example. So do not compare the much complicated Hindu religion with the most simple, right, straight forward religion-Islam.

Anonymous you don't know Abdullah Tariq. If you want just check old editions of the online Islamic Voice ( Our dialogue) at www.Islamicvoice.com. He is a student of Late Shaikh Shams Naveed Usmani who was the author of the book Agar Ab Bhi Na jagay to. Abdullah Tariq is more knowledgeable about Quran, Vedas and other religious scriptures than you. His teacher & he beleives that Hindus are nothing but similar to Mushriks of Makkah or Chritains who have lost the teachings of tawheed due to corruption of the relligious texts. If you canget the book by Shaikh Usmani then you will see that he had given many exmaples from the Vedas about the teachings of tawheed which was forgotton or ignored by Hindus due to lack of knowledge of Sanskrit and due to the corrupt priests.
I don't know whether your suggestion will reach him regarding his family to pray in church & temples but what is wrong with praying (offering Salat) in churches & temples if an opportunity comes? Unless you mean by praying in churches & temples to pray like Christan's & Hindus - which no Muslim will do.

You have a right to disagree with Tariq Abdullah, but please don't call him a dog. He never compared Allah Subhana Wa Taala with anybody, he just said different people call Him by different name, there is only one Allah ie God. Islam is epitome of moderation and toleration, being tolerent will not affect you or me from remaining practicing muslims.
