May 10:

New Delhi, May 10: Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh has invited unwanted controversy for his critical remarks on Home Ministry over China. The minister has been facing heat from all the corners.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Mondayconveyed his displeasure to Ramesh and told him to avoid commenting on the working of other ministries in public.

Ramesh’s remark has provided another opportunity to Opposition to target the UPA government at the centre.

Meanwhile, BJP has asked the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take action against Jairam for his statement, questioning government policy towards Chinese companies.

BJP may even seek Jairam’s resignation if PM does not take any action against him.

"His remarks are unbecoming of a minister. The government should take action. We expect the prime minister to act," said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar.

He said some lobbyists had penetrated the government and added that the minister's rationale for questioning government policy towards Chinese companies was flimsy.

"This is not acceptable. China is known for hacking sensitive data. The home ministry has rightly issued the guidelines," he said.

The Communist Party of India too criticized Ramesh for his unbecoming comments.
But unlike BJP, CPI has not demanded his resignation and excused him with an advice, that he should be more cautious and diplomatic in airing his views.
