February 23:

A Cairo judge has set June 2 as the date for sentencing former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

The judge set the date on Wednesday in the final hearing session of the landmark murder and corruption trial of Mubarak.

More than 16,000 people gave testimonies to the prosecution before the trial began in August.

The former president, his sons, Alaa and Gamal, as well as former Interior Minister Habib al-Adli face charges ranging from corruption to involvement in the deaths of hundreds of protesters in the revolution that unseated Mubarak last February.

Protesters demanded justice for all the martyrs of the country's February 2011 revolution.

Mubarak could face the death penalty if found guilty. He is being held in a military hospital near Cairo as he is said to be suffering from a heart condition.
