New Delhi, February 15: The former President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, and the former Lokayukta of Karnataka, Justice N. Santosh Hegde, have been selected for the S.R. Jindal Prize for their outstanding contributions in their fields.
While Mr. Kalam gets the award for his contributions in science and technology, Justice N. Santosh Hegde will be bestowed the prize for his exemplary service in social development. The prize carries a cash of Rs. 1 crore.
The Sitaram Jindal Foundation, which has instituted the award, will felicitate 25 others also. Patron of the Foundation Sitaram Jindal said, “The sole objective of instituting the S.R. Jindal Prizes for individuals and organisations that are beacons of selfless service is to motivate others to come forward and engage in such acts of welfare for Indian citizens.”The prizes will be presented at a ceremony on February 23.

Totally agree with the above comment. Further ....
One would imagine at this rate, that the prizes are aimed at prople who are already well established... Where as a name like Jindal should reach out to those who need the "push" to make a difference to society.
Pity no other names are declared ... more and more it sounds like a coverup (Hegde had to verify source of Prize) for funds ....
Re: Jindal prize to APJ
It is amazing to see that former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who had reached the epitome of recognition in India is still striving for recognition in India through Jindal prize. It is very unfortunate that people like him have not been able to show an example of acknowledging others achievements. People may question that, is Jindal award striving for recognition by giving it to Abdul Kalam because Dr. Abdul Kalam is definitely above Jindal Prize. He should be striving for some international recognitions.
