London, December 17:

A 58-year-old man in Britain has been sentenced to nine years in prison for stabbing his ex-girlfriend in the neck with a screwdriver outside her daughter's primary school.

"George Simpson ambushed Carol Bailey, 50, before wrestling her to the ground and attacking her with the tool. During the frenzied attack, which left the mother-of-six just minutes from death, he stabbed her nine times in the neck and screamed 'I'm going to kill you, b***h'," Daily Mail reported.

Simpson was pacing up and down a road in Bentilee, a suburb in Staffordshire county, just minutes before he struck her in the morning of May 21, said witnesses.

As police arrived, they found Simpson weeping over the woman's unconscious body. He admitted his crime before the officers.

Simpson was jailed for nine years after he admitted to attempted murder at Stafford Crown Court.
