Tehran, April 11: A senior Iranian lawmaker says the United States and its allies are not able to control the effects of the recent uprisings in the Muslim world.
“The US is seeking to prolong the lifespan of dictatorships and has tried to control the aftershocks of the Islamic awakening through its opportunism, but the Muslim world and the people have so far proven to be alert,” member of the Parliament (Majlis) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazem Jalali said on Sunday.
Jalali said the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission is keeping a watchful eye on the popular uprisings in the region and added that the commission was responsible for briefing other lawmakers on the latest developments, IRNA reported.
On March 31, the Commission released a statement condemning the US and Saudi Arabia for their interference in the internal affairs of Bahrain.
The statement pointed to the role of the US, which claims to defend human rights in the world, and said Washington has demonstrated that it only thinks of its own interests.
It stated that the US and Israel are the main enemies of the world and stressed that they continue to hatch plots in an attempt to dominate the Muslim world.
The statement also pointed to the plots hatched by colonial powers, particularly Britain, to cause a rift between Shia and Sunni Muslims and called on Muslims in the region to strengthen their unity and solidarity in order to counter such 'ominous conspiracies.'
