Hyderabad, July 11: The MIM president and Hyderabad MP, Mr Asaduddin Owaisi, appealed to the Centre to put an end to the political uncertainty in the state. He said the common man was being put to a lot of suffering due to the agitations. The economies of Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and other metros are picking up while Hyderabad has slumped due to volatile political situation.
\Reacting sharply to the appeal made by the TRS and other parties to the MIM MLAs to resign, Mr Owaisi said the party (MIM) was neither morally nor politically obliged to quit for Telangana. “The MIM did not go to the people either in 2004 and 2009 elections or subsequent municipal polls with the slogan of Telangana. We always fought for development and welfare of minorities and weaker sections. It is the TRS, TD, CPM and CPI which formed a Maha Kutami and had T on its election manifesto,” he said.
People who are asking MIM MLAs to resign, need to explain why only seven Muslims have been elected as MLAs from a total of 117 seats in Telangana region, and only three legislators out of 175 Assembly seats in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions and only one MP from a total of 42 seats in the state. “Where is diversity and pluralism. Because all these political parties are not electing Muslims in more numbers from all three regions, the MIM is representing the community all over AP,” he remarked. Mr Owaisi also made it clear that the MIM will not allow any unilateral decision to be taken on Hyderabad. Over 45 per cent of Muslims live in Hyderabad and MIM has 43 corporators, seven MLAs, two MLCs and one MP.
“We will not allow Hyderabad to be a Union Territory. The MIM, in principle is not in favour of bifurcation of the state but if it is done, then Hyderabad should be the capital of Telangana. Can Telangana survive without Hyderabad? There is no geographical contiguity for Hyderabad to be a Union Territory like Chandigarh,” he said. Raising the issue of sharing of river waters, he said what about the fate of Pothyreddypadu, Nagarjunasagar, Pulcihinthala and Polavaram among others.
