November 09:

Lucknow, November 09: Acting on a complaint by a woman Haj pilgrim who alleged she was forced to pay Rs 2000 to policemen for verification relating to her passport, the Uttar Pradesh Minorities Commission today sought an explanation from a top officer.

State Minorities Commission chairman S M A Kazmi had shot a letter to the DIG, Azamgarh, seeking his explanation on the matter within two weeks.

The woman, in her complaint to the Commission, alleged she was forced to pay Rs 2000 to police for verification with regard to her passport.

In the complaint, Shamima alleged even after paying the money, the police gave an adverse report which shattered her dream of going to Haj.

The Chairman assured her that stern action would be taken against the guilty policemen.

He told her he would also get her name included in the list of pilgrims.
