Mumbai girls below 15 – Abortion rate increased by 67%

Bombay Municipal Corporation collected data from licensed medical officers conducting termination of Pregnancy cases reveals that teen aged girls below 15 years have been aborting frequently. According to this survey, in 2013-14 111 girls below the age of 15 underwent abortion. In 2014-15 this number increased to 185. Hence there is an increase of 67% in abortion cases.

This survey also revealed that as many as 6000 girls in Andheri East and West terminated their pregnancy. Many of them got it done in private hospitals. Dr. Suchitra Pandit, a senior Gynecologist lamented that the girls who are just out of school are going to doctors for getting contraceptives.

The analysis of the reasons for girls adopting abortion was that in many cases contraceptives failed. It is said that the sexual activity among the teenager has enormously increased.
