Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi in an interview to an English newspaper said that after the death of Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Muslims became orphan. Now, there is none to take care of their safety or welfare, he lamented. Stating that Bhagya Lakshmi temple issue was just the flash point, Owaisi said that snapping ties with the ruling Congress was a well thought out decision taken in the best interests of the Muslim community.
He has alleged that the Kiran Kumar Reddy government had done great injustice to Muslim students. He also said that police harassment of innocent Muslims had increased after YSR's death. He dismissed allegations that he had decided to sever ties with the Congress because he wanted to usurp the land of Mahaveer hospital. He alleged that the Chief Minister's Office was deliberately leaking information to defame him. He reminded that the application they sent for sanction of that land for the Darussalam Medical Education Trust was withdrawn.
Owaisi yesterday made it abundantly clear that he wants to hold the hand of YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to strengthen his party and expand it to greener pastures.
Alleging increased attacks on Muslims, Owaisi said that goons had attacked his brother and MLA Akbaruddin in broad daylight in the old city. He also dismissed the reports that because of his decision to snap ties with Congress, the BJP would be strengthened.
Explaining how the Muslims were benefited during the late YSR regime, Owaisi said that schemes launched by late YSR for the uplift of the minorities were ignored by Kiran Kumar Reddy government. Singing paeans to late YSR is seen as his plan to sail with his son Jagan.
Reports suggest that Asaduddin Owaisi wants to expand his party, which was so far confined to the old city of Hyderabad, to other areas with strong Muslim population. It is being said that soon he would plan fighting elections with the YSR Congress and in 2014 elections, the two parties would forge a clear alliance.
