Naidu to launch “Jandhan Yojana” in AP on Aug 28

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will launch the “Prime Minister Jandhan Yojana” here on August 28.

In a video conference held with District Collectors, Special Chief Secretary S P Tucker said the PM will unveil the programme at 4 pm in New Delhi on August 28, which will be telecasted siultaneously in all the states.

During the launch here, one central minister will accompany Naidu and two others will attend the programme at Vijayawada and Tirupathi on the same day, he said.

Under this programme all the households will be given a personalised rupee debit card, which will be useful for getting governmental assistance and other banking activities, Insurance coverage, overdraft facility after six months of bank account opening etc among other benefits.

He requested the District Collectors to coordinate with bankers to expedite opening bank accounts for all needy families.

District level implementation committees under chairmanship of District Collectors have also been constituted for which Lead District Managers were Secretaries of the committee.

Rami Reddy, Deputy Director General, Uniq card, who also participated in the video conference said the KYC facility available in ‘Aadhar’ architecture could be utilised for the programme as the state has completed 95 per cent UID work.

Doraiswamy, General Manger (Andhra bank) and Convener State Level Banker Committee said the rupee card issued under this programme would make one eligible for insurance coverage overdraft facility of Rs 5000.

The government?s aim is to open a compulsory Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account (BSBD) to every citizen in the country, who has no account till today.

A special campaign will be launched to encourage citizens to open bank accounts and explain its merits and demerits to the citizens clearly, he said.

“The bank account will be opened with zero balance and an Rs One lakh accident insurance coverage will be provided to these bank account customers,” he said adding that we are taking steps to educate citizens, who have no bank accounts till date.
