Tehran, December 17:

Iran has denied any possibility of military attack against the country by the Western nations, Xinhua reported Monday.

Iran was in the best defensive condition and in case the West intended to attack the country, it would face grave loss, the country's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast said, adding that for the same reason the West dared not to attack Iran militarily.

Therefore, they were targeting the economy of the country by imposing sanctions, he said.

By sanctions they want to put the people under pressure and to create social discontent, he said.

Iran is under a number of unilateral western sanctions on its oil and financial sectors over its controversial nuclear programme.

The US and its western allies have accused Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons under the guise of its civilian nuclear programme, a charge Tehran has consistently denied.
