June 07:

New Delhi, June 07: In another twist to the controversy surrounding Sharad Pawar, it has been learnt that the Union Agriculture Minister has stake in the Vijay Mallya owned United Breweries Group that owns the Royal Challengers Bangalore Indian Premier League team.

Talking to a news channel, Pawar accepted that he had a share in the UB group but insisted that it was purely a business investment and did not mean that he or any of his family members had a stake in the Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL team.

According to a leading newspaper, the Pawars own 51,000 shares in Vijay Mallya owned United Spirits Limited, valued at around 6 crores.

However, UB Group Chairman Vijay Mallya denied the claim that the Pawar family holds shares in the company.

In his latest tweet on Sunday, Mallya wrote: `Height of Media`s absurdity again! Pawar owns shares in the Baramati Grape Industries. So he owns an interest in the RCB! God help us!`

Earlier, reports had also suggested that the Pawars own 33.6 lakh shares (out of 2.07 crore shares) in City Corporation, a Pune-based construction company which made an unsuccessful bid of Rs 1,176 crore for the Pune IPL franchisee in March.

Pawar had, however, denied those reports suggesting that the bid was made by a top official of the company in his personal capacity and not on behalf of the firm.
