January 18:

Jeddah, January 18: The decision to shift Consulate General of India in Jeddah has created a wave of apprehension among the NRIs residing there. The officials of consulate have decided to shift the present office to a far off place and it is likely to be shifted in the month of February. It is said that the Consulate General of India Jeddah was located at Madina road, the prime spot in Jeddah, for the past 30 years.

This is the place which is populated by a large number of Indians. The place is surrounded by Bab-e-Makkah, Sharfia, Azizia, Baghdadia, Ammaria and other places which are predominated by Indians. It was easy for the Indians to reach consulate office for settlement of any problem but now the office is being shifted 7 kilometers far. Indians will face many difficulties reaching there including more traveling expenses.

NRIs are of the opinion that if it is compulsory to shift the office then there are many newly constructed buildings around the present building where the office can be shifted.

The NRIs have appealed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and foreign minister SM Krishna to stop the shifting.
