Washington, April 20: Greeting Israelis on the occasion of 62nd anniversary of their country's establishment, US President Barack Obama said that his administration would continue to work for a "two-state solution" and counter the forces that threat the two nations and the world.
"I look forward to continuing our efforts with Israel to achieve comprehensive peace and security in the region, including a two-state solution, and to working together to
counter the forces that threaten Israel, the United States, and the world," Obama said in his message Monday.
Asserting that Israel remains an important partner and key strategic ally of the US in the Middle East, Obama said he is confident that the special relationship will only be strengthened in the months and years to come.
"On the 62nd Anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel, I join the American people in congratulating the government and people of Israel on this celebration of their independence," he said.
"Minutes after David Ben-Gurion declared Israel's independence, realising the dream of a state for the Jewish people in their historic homeland, the United States became the first country to recognise Israel."
The two countries continue to share a strong, unbreakable bond of friendship, which was anchored by the US' enduring commitment to the security of Israel, Obama added.
