March 22:

Queensland, March 22: Retired Liberal MP Peter Lindsay says he didn't leak to the media a secret poll that seemingly has galvanised a push to dump Queensland's Opposition leader.

The internal Liberal National Party (LNP) research found Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman would be a far more popular leader than John-Paul Langbroek.

Mr Newman has called a press conference for 10.30am (AEST) today.

He's expected to announce he'll contest a state seat for the LNP at the next election, amid reports he's been anointed as leader in waiting.

Mr Langbroek yesterday admitted he'd been kept in the dark about the internal polling on his popularity.

Mr Lindsay today said a report in The Townsville Bulletin, which said he'd sent text messages to news organisations about the polling, was wrong.

"No information was sent to any media outlet anywhere in Australia," he said.

Mr Lindsay's daughter is Mr Newman's senior media adviser.
