A photo exhibition inaugurated here Friday captures vivid images of India’s mountainous landscape, its many contrasts and hidden treasures highlighting the country’s topography.
Titled “A Tryst with Divinity”, the exhibition chronicles the travel escapades of Sharat Sharma, director operations of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
Curated by his wife, Kamalnaini Sharma, the exhibition is an attempt to share glimpses of their journeys together over three decades, and present to people the “unseen and unfamiliar” terrain of India’s landscapes.
“We have been travelling together since we got married 30 years ago. Though we have travelled in India and abroad, the reason we chose to display only Indian landscapes was that we believe our country has many hidden gems that are breathtakingly beautiful,” Kamalnaini told IANS.
“This exhibition is a tribute to Indian landscapes. Compared to sea, we have more photographs of mountains and this is because Sharat is passionate about mountains,” she added.
Hence, these 45 exhibits cover panoramic landscapes and portrait shots of picturesque destinations around Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Kerala.
“We have been very lucky several times to get good weather to click pictures of random places using natural light. The compositions, thus, show a great contrast among the sky, mountains and the soil,” she said, adding that they feel India is “blessed” with natural beauty.
“We want to inspire youngsters through this exhibition, so that they too know what India has to offer,” she added.
The exhibition is on at the Open Palm Court Gallery at the India Habitat Centre till Oct 31.
The exhibits are for sale and the money generated from the sale would be given to charities.
