December 24:

Hyderabad, December 24: Osmania University registrar Prof C Beena resigned her post on Thursday amidst speculations that the University environment would worsen in the wake of Telangana agitation.

Prof. of psychology Ms. Beena had been appointed as registrar in the current year as the first woman registrar of the university.

Speaking to media men here on Thursday, Beena said that she resigned to her post in view of her increased institutional commitments.

“I have impressed upon the vice-chancellor Prof T Tirupati Rao to relieve me with immediate effect stating these genuine concerns. I thank the V-C and the executive council of the university for obliging my request so as to enable me to devote my full time to teaching, research and institutional assignments on hand,'' she added.

Replying to a query, Beena said she was not opposed to Governor ESL Narasimhan's remarks on appointing no academicians for the posts of vice chancellors in the state.

“I want to serve AIDS affected people. I enjoyed carrying on the mantle of the university for the last 18 months. Serving the university in this capacity has been a challenge to me,'' she added.

Tirupati Rao said that Prof. V Kishan Rao, senior professor, department of ancient history, culture and archaeology and dean of UGC would hold full additional charge as the Registrar, till further orders.
