Well, one thought after another is coming to mind about the name change. Therefore this is my third comment in Siasat today. I just want to share it with my fellow Muslim, although many might already know it.

The name of an adopted child is not changed in Islam. Prophet (SA) adopted Zaid who was the son of a slave called Haritha. Even after adoption, he did not become Zaid Bin Mohammed, he remained Zaid Bin Haritha (RA).

Incidentally, Zaid is the only name mentioned in the holy Quran from among the companions of the Prophet(SA),although references to other companions could be found without their actual names.

Further, one of the wives of the Prophet (SA) Zainab was married to Zaid Bin Haritha (RA) before being married to the Prophet (SA). While she (RA) was married to Zaid (RA) she was considered to be the daughter-in-law of the Prophet(SA) (Bahu in our language). Allah (SWT) in his infinite wisdom commanded the Prophet (SA)to ask Zaid (RA)to divorce her and furhter commanded the Prophet (RA) to marry her, which the Prophet(RA) did. This clearly explains that nothing can change the maternity or paternity of a person irrespective of whatever human way they might be related to one another. Therefore, changing ones maternity or paternity would be fraudulent in the eyes of Allah (SWT). It is also reported that there were compatibilty issues between Zaid (RA) and Zainab (RA)while they were married to each other since she (RA) belonged to the higher strata of society and Zaid (RA) was a slave's son.

Dear brothers, the holy Quran is the ultimate word of Allah (SAW), no doubt about it and no other book can can have its status. But we also need elaboration, in matters of culture of that time, the customs of that time, how the noble companions interpreted the holy Quran, how they conducted themselves. We can learn this from the books of Hadith like Bukhari, Muslim and many more. In addition to this I would very stronly recomend Sirat Al Nabi - Prophet's biography. In my opinion a book that deals on this and which is short and concise, is a book called "The Raheeq Al Makhtom". This is available both English as well as Urdu, may be available in other languages too. It is written by Safi Ur Rehman Mubarakpuri and published, perhaps by Darusallam Publisher. I am quite optimistic that this is available in Hyderabad too. Please read it, it will enrich you. But please remember at the same time, no book can be a substitue for the holy Quran.

May Allah (SWT) guide us all to the correct path. Ameen.

Sometime back I wrote some comments on the change of Sania's surname from Mirza to Malik. I forgot to give examples from Islamic history or practices. I am giving that now.

1) Prophet's (SA) daughter Fatima (RA) after marrying Ali Bin Abu Talib (RA) remained Fatima Bint Mohammed (RA). Her name was not changed to Fatima Zouj Ali or Mrs. Ali Bin Abu Talib. Similarly, two other daughters Umm Koulthum (RA) and Raukhya (RA) were married to Osman (RA) (After one daughter passed away while being married to Osman (RA), Prophet (SA) gave another daughter in marriage to him). Thier names remained Umm Koulthum Bint Mohammed (RA) and Rukhya Bint Mohammed (RA). They did not change to Zouj Osman or Mrs. Osman.

Further, Khadija (RA), the first wife of the Prophet (RA) remained Khadija Bint Khulyaid (RA) - her father's name was Khulyaid. After marriage to the Prophet (SA), she did not become Zouj Mohammed or Mrs. Mohammed. Similarly Aisha (RA) remained Aisha Bint Abu Bakr (RA), her name was not changed.
Can a Muslim ask for better examples? Always the father's name continued along with daughters or sons. Although a man or woman could also be known by son's or daugher's names. This is called "Kunniyat" in Arabic. Prophet (SA) was also known as Abul Qasim (father of Qasim - Qasim was the first son of the Prophet (SA). Women are also known by their children's names, like, if the name of the child is Faisal, his mother could be known as Umm Faisal or if the daughter's name is Tahira, the mother could be known as Umm Tahira and the father could be called Abu Tahira. In any case the identity remains genuinely same, there would be no question of changing it. There could be no fraud. Maternity or paternity of a person cannot be changed under any circumstances in this world. How realistic and practical Islam is!

The name or identity of a woman does not change with marriage in Islam. Therefore Sania Mirza will remain Sania Mirza all her life irrespective of whom she marries. This is the Islamic approach or way. There is no limit to number of marriages a woman may contract in Islam as long her divorcee status is clear and she had completed the Iddat period. If a woman marries five times, should she change her identity or the name five times? This goes to show the dignity with which she is treated. Her name is independent of her husband. Islam gives women an immutable individual identity, it does not attach her identity to her husband's, she has her own. Even Hillary Clinton, who is not a Muslim, uses her father's name. She calls herself Hillar Rodham Clinton. She is more close to the Islamic approach than some Muslims. This is due to lack of Islamic knowledge or blind imitation of other cultures and religions.

Siasat is a newspaper mostly read by the Muslims. It is owned by the Muslims, in this article, they are talking about two Muslims (Sania & Shoeb). If Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, Editor of this paper had given a little thought to this instead of trying for witty headlines just to impress or amuse readers, he would have done a small service to the Muslim community by providing Islamic education to them without any cost or effort. People in the forefront of the Muslim community should be imaginative and should strive for inculcating Islam among the Muslims when they possess the tools and means required for the same. Hope Siasat will take note and put in efforts in such matters in future. Let our motto be "Quality Muslims" meaning well-informed and practicing Muslims. Ameen.

Are the Siddiqui's and Malik's brain dead or insane ? Have they not learnt anything from the Ayesha episode which has still not ended. They should have learnt that marriages should never be performed in Secret especially for celebrities. Marriage is not a sin but a celebration.
