February 07:

Bhopal, February 07 (Pervez Bari): Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), conducted its first state conference in Berhampur town, District headquarters of Murshidabad District in West Bengal today.

About ten thousand people gathered in the Young Men Association Maidan, despite road blocks and traffic rearrangements made by police, owing to Chief Minister Budhdadev’s visit to the town. Party workers from the nook and corners of Murshidabad and the nearby two districts poured in to the Berhampur city by 2 O’clock in the afternoon. Presence of Muslim women in large numbers among the audience was a rare experience for the city. A courtesy visit by about 50 guests from Jharkhand also invited notice.

According to SDPI Press release Mr. Tauheed-ul-Islam, the West Bengal President, chaired the function. Mr. E. Aboobacker, National President of SDPI, inaugurated the public meeting.

Mr. Sudip Biswas, leader of Bengal Dalit Sena, who addressed the gathering declared that he has dissolved his party and joined SDPI. He formally entered the party receiving flag from the National President.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Aboobacker pointed out that villages in West Bengal, where Muslims and Dalits are the inhabitants, are not provided with facilities like roads, schools, electricity and hospitals as compared to the villages of upper castes. He said political party leaders have looted away the wealth of the nation and deposited in foreign banks.

He lamented that lakhs of crores of rupees are involved in the scams stories of which are coming out at regular intervals in the media. This amount is sufficient to clear the foreign debt of the country and put an end to the hunger of our children.

Mr. Aboobacker urged the people to wake up and work for the uplift of the marginalized people which in turn will uplift the nation from the morass of poverty and illiteracy.

Others who spoke on the occasion included A. Sayeed and Mohammed Omer Khan, SDPI National General Secretaries; Maulana Usman Baig, President All India Imam’s Council; Hafiz Manzoor Khan, SDPI National Secretary; Mrs. Aliya Parveen, State Working Committee Member; and Mr. Shahabuddin, President Popular Front of India West Bengal state unit, the release said.
