Bhopal, October 14 (Pervez Bari): The Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), has felt aghast and shocked at the barbaric attack on senior advocate, anti-corruption campaigner and civil liberties crusader Mr. Prashant Bhushan inside his chambers opposite the Supreme Court for his advocacy of plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir. The party has demanded immediate arrest of those who assaulted the legal luminary under the full glare of TV camera.
Mr. E. Aboobacker, National President of SDPI, in a statement while condemning the assault on Adv. Prashant Bhushan, said it is really reprehensible that the youths owing allegiance to the rightwing Shriram Sene organisation had the temerity to take law into their hands in front of TV camera to express their ire over the advocate’s reported remarks on Kashmir issue.
Shriram Sene which perpetrated today’s attack on Adv. Prashant Bhushan is a RSS-affiliated communal-fascist outfit notorious for violent attacks on Muslims, women and other oppressed sections of the society to fulfill their Hindutva agenda. In 2008 they attacked women in a Mangalore pub and assaulted S.A.R. Geelani at a public meeting in Delhi University. It is suspected that its members are connected to the several bomb blasts carried out by RSS’s Hindutva affiliates in various parts of the country, including the Malegaon blast. Rather than punishing these fascist forces, the ruling classes and the Indian state routinely gives them protection and uses them to carry out further attacks on oppressed classes and castes, religious and national minorities, women and the section of civil society which dares to raise their voice supporting people’s democratic rights, the statement stated.
Mr. Aboobacker said that it is shameful act enacted by misguided elements. It seems any crazy person can assault anybody regardless of his status. It appears that there is no fear of law or police and that is why such incidents are happening all around. Govt. must deal with such elements strictly. These are the people who are so uneducated that they cannot hold an intelligent discussion. Such groups should be socially boycotted in the country, he added.
This attack constitutes part of the Sangh Parivar’s agenda to intimidate the voices defending democracy and people’s rights and resisting jingoism and communal fascism. The attack on Mr. Prashant Bhushan exposes the real fascist face of the Sangh Parivar at a time when Advani is on his Rath Yatra claiming to champion the JP movement’s democratic legacy and fight corruption, the statement added.
