Sensex Up 192 Pts In Early Trade On Global Cues

The BSE benchmark index Sensex shot up by over 192 points in early trade today on frenzied buying by funds and retail investors, triggered by a firming trend in global markets.

The 30-share index,which has lost 48.42 points yesterday, spurted by 192.20 points, or 1.06 per cent, to 18,346.19 points with banking, metals, oil and gas and realty stocks leading the rally.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 53.65 points, or 0.97 per cent, to 5,575.60.

Brokers said buying by funds and retail investors amid a firming trend in Asian markets in line with overnight gains on the US markets following buoyant economic data with new jobless claims falling to their lowest level since March 2008, bolstered trading sentiment here.

In Asia, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose by 1.07 per cent, while Japan’s Nikkei index up by 1.81 per cent in the morning trade today.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.96 per cent to reach highest level since May 2008 in yesterday’s trade.
