S.M. Krishna Visits the tomb of Bahadur Shah Zafar

Hyderabad, June 23: Foreign Minister of India, Mr. S. M. Krishna during his three day visit to Maynamar, paid a visit to the grave of the Last Moghal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar in Dagwan Town near Yangoon. He paid floral tribute to the departed soul. Present on this occasion was Indian Ambassador to Maynamar Mr. V.S. Seshadri. Bahadur Shah Zafar was defeated in the first war of Independence of India in 1857.

After this defeat, he was arrested and sent to Rangoon where he died after five years. His grave was discovered in 1991 when cleaning of the town started. Buried beside him is the last Moghal Queen Begum Zeenath Mahal. Mr. Krishna expressed his views in the visitors’ book saying that the memory of the Last Moghal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar should be kept alive. The tomb is being guarded as a monument.
