Student’s suicide creates scare on college campus

Friday, 6 November 2009

Hyderabad, November 06: The gory incident of Villa Marie student Anusha jumping to her death from the college building created a scare on the college campus and worried parents of other students were seen rushing to the college to take home their daughters on Thursday.

Anxious parents were seen enquiring with security guards at the main entrance and information desk on the first floor about their wards’ classrooms.
Students in shock

As Anusha lay on the ground in a pool of blood, horrified students and staff milled around the windows and stared at the gory sight. After Anusha was rushed to the nearby hospital, most students could be seen in a state of shock, talking in hushed tones and huddled in groups.

As news channels began running scrolls on the incident, worried parents made a beeline to the college. “It’s really a shocking incident. We have come to take our girls back home,” said the shell-shocked parents.

The college management, however, maintained that the reasons behind Anusha’s death were not known. At a parent-teacher meeting held on Saturday last, no specific complaints were received from her parents.
Active student

“Efforts are on to collect more details from her classmates to know the exact reasons that forced the girl to end her life,” said a lecturer Reena Dewan.

The girl used to participate actively in cultural programmes and was said to be good at studies. She had no backlog subjects, but was reticent on certain occasions, the lecturer said. Police inquiries revealed that Anusha’s father Prasanna Kumar is working as a manager in Sponge Iron India Limited in Khammam district, while her mother, Radha Bai, is a headmistress at the Zilla Parishad High School at Siripuram in Medak district. The girl’s sister is a final-year student of Aeronautical Engineering College in Dundigal.

Meanwhile, based on a complaint lodged by the mother Radha Bai, the police booked a case of abetment to suicide under Section 306 of the IPC against four classmates of Anusha. Investigation is on.
