Sweden, February 05: Sweden has insisted that there is no deviation in Iran's peaceful nuclear program and denounced any use of military force against Tehran as “stupidity.”
“I think we are seeking a diplomatic solution. There is no military solution to it, none whatsoever. What you can achieve by military action is further military action and a further militarization of the conflict that is going to work to the detriment of what we are seeking to achieve," said Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt on the sidelines of the three-day Munich Security Conference in Germany on Friday.
Referring to Iran's nuclear program, Bildt said, “I follow it very closely and so far -- and that is the American view as well -- we have no information that the Iranians have decided to acquire nuclear weapons,” and warned against “any stupidity” with respect to Iran's nuclear issue.
The United States, Israel, and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program. Washington and Tel Aviv have repeatedly threatened Tehran with the "option" of a military strike against its atomic facilities.
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council -- under pressure from Washington and Tel Aviv -- has imposed four rounds of sanctions against Iran. The United States and the European Union have also adopted unilateral measures against the Islamic Republic in an effort to deter Western investment in Iran's energy sector.
Iran argues that as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has every right to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
