New Delhi, January 24: Swine flu's process of killing people is still on as with at least seven more deaths in the country, has taken India's death toll to 1,177, health authorities said Saturday.
Of the seven deaths, four were in Chhattisgarh, two in Maharashtra and one in Gujarat. With these four deaths, Chhattisgarh has so far reported six deaths due to the pandemic virus. In Maharashtra, the death toll has climbed to 308 and in Gujarat, it has reached 209.
Besides, the country also reported 39 fresh cases of influenza A (H1N1), of which 12 were in Maharashtra, five in Delhi and 14 in Gujarat. While four cases were reported from Rajasthan, one each was reported in Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
With these new cases, India has so far reported 28,551 infections since it reported its first case of swine flu from Hyderabad in May 2009.
