Former minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Wednesday claimed that the Telangana State would be a Republic Day gift by the Centre to the people of this region.
Dr Shankar Rao, who visited the Legislative Assembly after a gap of about three months, reporters that the roadmap for formation of Telangana State would be discussed during the AICC's session at Jaipur and a formal announcement would be made on the eve of Republic Day.
Dr Shankar Rao said that hundreds of youth have sacrificed their lives for the formation of separate State since 1960s and a separate Telangana State would be the ideal homage for them. He said that two generations have struggled to achieve statehood for the region and now the third generation would witness its formation.
The former minister also took light of the proposed meeting of Seemandhra leaders on Thursday. He said that the party leaders from all regions would have to abide by the decision taken by the Congress High Command and therefore, the outcome of the proposed meeting would be irrelevant. (INN)
