August 15:

Dubai, August 15: The United Arab Emirates has said that it is seeking clarification from Germany on its decision to release an Israeli suspect wanted in the murder of senior Hamas leader Mahmoud Al Mabhouh here early this year.

The UAE's Foreign Ministry said the country has been closely following the judicial proceedings in Germany against Uri Brodsky, arrested in connection with the fraudulent use of a German passport.

The country expressed concern over Germany releasing Uri Brodsky on bail and granting him the freedom to return to Israel while the case against him continues.

In a statement issued by the ministry, Assistant Minister for Legal Affairs Abdurahim Al Awadhi said: "The UAE seeks assurances that Brodsky is in no way connected with the murder of Mahmoud Al Mabhouh in Dubai in January of this year."

The ministry sought clarification from the German government on the Brodsky case as this may relate to a serious crime committed in Dubai.

The UAE expects full and close cooperation from the German authorities and will continue to pursue the matter through diplomatic channels, it said.
