Kabul, November 08: Kabul has accused the top United Nations official in Afghanistan, Kai Eide, of intervening in President Hamid Karzai's efforts to form a new cabinet.

The Afghan Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that Eide had "exceeded his authority."

On Thursday, Eide said the Afghan government risked losing international support if it continued to allow "warlords and powerbrokers" to "play their own games."

The Afghan Foreign Ministry also noted that the Karzai administration had made combating corruption one of the "preconditions for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan."

Karzai was declared the winner of Afghanistan's presidential election after Abdullah Abdullah withdrew from the November 7 run-off, citing 'serious concerns' about the election process.

The UN has been accused of seeking to further the interests of the US and other Western countries in Afghanistan since the occupation of the country began eight years ago.
