Europe’s largest masjid inaugurated in Russia

Shali [Russia]: Chechnya inaugurated the largest masjid of Europe. The ceremony which was held on Friday was attended by many officials including UAE Minister of Tolerance, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Abdullatif Al Sheikh and the Kuwaiti Amiri Diwan Adviser and Chairman of the International Islamic Charitable Organisation (IICO) Dr Abdullah Al Maatouq.

According to the report published in The National, the masjid is named after Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and it is decorated with marble.

Area of the Masjid

Chechen authorities claimed that it is the largest masjid of Europe. The area of the masjid is 9700 sq. meter and it can accommodate 70000 worshippers.

The first Friday sermon was delivered by the Muslim World League Secretary-General Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al Issa.

Mr. Vladimir Putin, Russian President commended the inauguration of the masjid which is located in Shali, Russia.

It may be mentioned that Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov is promoting Islam in Chechnya.
