Kolkata: One person was today arrested on charge of cheating his employer of Rs 15 lakh but later granted bail by a court as the employer did not press for charges on recovery of the cash from his residence.
Police said the accused Tapan Maity was arrested by cops from Hare Street police station earlier in the day after they found inconsistencies in Maity’s version that the said amount of money was stolen from bag as he was getting down from a bus near India Exchange Place in B B D Bagh area of city.
Maity was supposed to deliver the cash from a client in Lake Town area to his employer, whose office is in the central business district area of city.
However, during questioning under police pressure Maity broke down and confessed that he had kept the money at his residence in Andul in Howrah district.
Since the employer on getting back the money withdrew his complaint, Maity was granted bail when produced at court.
