10 students drown during picnic at Murud beach in Raigad

At least 10 students of Pune’s Inamdar College drowned in the sea near Murud beach in Raigad, Maharashtra on Monday and the Indian Coast Guard has also launched search operation.

However, the death toll is expected to increase.

The incident took place around 5:00 p.m. when 112 students went for a picnic at Murud beach in Raigad district, around 150 kilometres south of Mumbai.

Out of the deceased, seven students were girls and the remaining three were boys.

College trustee, S.A. Inamdar, said that till now 10 dead bodies have been recovered and six more students are admitted to the hospital. He added that the cause of the accident is still not known.

“At 5:00 p.m. we got a call that an accident has taken place. We took all necessary steps after we got information,” he said.

Rescue operations are underway in full-swing by locals and the Raigad Police with help from nearby police stations.
