Berlin:A 13-year-old Berlin teen has admitted making the false story about being kidnapped and gang-raped by migrants. The case has triggered a furore in Germany, sparking angry protests and an international row with Russia.
The girl was a member of Berlin’s Russian-speaking community. Her parents reported her missing after she failed to appear at school. She returned after 30 hours with injuries on her face and told her parents ,she had been attacked by three men of Arabic and Turkish descent had dragged her into a car at a train station and abused her.
News of the incident spread on social media, sparking outrage among Berlin’s Russian-German community. The Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, also criticised the Berlin authorities. He said, “The news that she disappeared was kept secret for a very long time,” and blamed the “political correctness”.
A medical examination showed that she had not been raped. Berlin prosecutor’s office spokesman Martin Steltner said when she was questioned ,“she immediately admitted that the story of the rape was not true”.
The officials said according to her phone records she was staying with a German man on the night of her absence. Steltner said that no sexual activity occurred that night.
Further investigation states that the girl had sexual contact with two men months before her disappearance. The men were being held for questioning as the girl is under the age.
