160 more illegal structures razed by GHMC today

Hyderabad: Under the “Operation demolition” drive, the GHMC authorities, in cooperation with other wings, have pulled down 160 unauthorized constructions in the city on Thursday.
The State government has taken a strong decision to demolish illegal structures which came up on nalas after encroachments, which was the main reason for preventing flow of rain water into tanks. As a result, several low-lying areas and colonies were inundated due to heavy rainfall recently.
With the demolition of today’s structures, the GHMC staff along with Revenue, Town Planning and Police demolished 612 unauthorized structures so far when the drive was launched on the direction of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. However, the CM gave a clear instruction to the authorities to spare the poor for whom the government would provide double bed room houses. The demolition squads pulled down 15 structures in the East Zone, 30 in South Zone, 10 in Central zone, 54 in West zone and 30 in North zone. (NSS)
