Thrissur: A 19-year-old youth allegedly hanged himself to death after alleged torture by the police. Vinayakan along with one other were beaten up and questioned by police in connection with a gold chain theft in the area.
He was let off by police after being questioned and committed suicide on return to his home in Thrissur district on Tuesday, reports HT.
Vinayakan and his friend had been picked up for questioning when they were talking to a girl on Monday afternoon, relatives said.
However, the Police said the duo was picked up because they did not have relevant papers for the motorbike they had.
Thrissur police commissioner T Narayanan told that the Guruvayur assistant commissioner of police will investigate the matter. Only a probe will bring out the truth, Narayanan said.
The 19-year-old who worked at a beauty parlour, was also reportedly asked to shave off his long hair. The youth came home and committed suicide by hanging, relatives said.
