New Delhi: A 19-year-old girl was found murdered inside a house in central Delhi’s Patel Nagar area today.
The victim, Nikita, had sustained four stab injuries and her body was found inside the rented accommodation of a youth who has claimed he was not present in the house at the time of the incident, which came to light at around 8 PM.
Nikita’s identity was ascertained with the help of an identity card recovered from the room, police said.
Her parents were informed and the body was then sent for a post-mortem, police said.
“We have registered a case of murder and investigation is underway,” said DCP (Central) Parmaditya.
The youth in whose room the body was found has been detained for questioning. He has so far claimed he did not know Nikita and found the body after returning home from work.
Police have not ruled out the possibility of the crime having been committed by a third person who was perhaps known to the youth.
Nikita, a school dropout, lived with her family in central Delhi’s Anand Parbat area. Her father is a plumber. Her family members said they had no knowledge of Nikita’s whereabouts since the afternoon.
