Hyderabad: Two persons were today arrested for allegedly circulating a false message on social media that All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA representing Yakatpura Assembly segment here has died.

One Mohd Iftiqar Iqbal lodged a complaint with Rein Bazar Police station and showed to the police the message on his Facebook account about the demise of Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, MLA of Yakutpura Constituency.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered.

“The complainant requested to take necessary action into the matter as family members, relatives and sympathisers of the MLA went into shock by reading the message,” DCP (South Zone) V Satyanarayana said in a release.

During the course of investigation, one Shaik Emraan was taken into the custody and based on his interrogation his friend Mohd Rasheed was also detained, the DCP said.

“On questioning Mohd Rasheed, it was revealed that he has created the message just for the sake of fun,” the police officer said.
